My Beyond Color project is to create short video exercises called Art Bits and a Bird’s Eye View demo of how I build a 12 x 12″ abstract expressionist painting.

The first Welcome, Favorite Materials, Art Bit exercise #1 and A Bird’s Eye View Demo #1 is free. Try them out here and let me know what you think!

You can join me for each video session after that by making a pay-what-you-are-able payment. The suggested price for each video is $15, the minimum is $1.

My mission is to keep prices low for those who are struggling during this pandemic. If you are able to give more and want to support my creative pursuits as an art patron, see the donation box below. I appreciate your support very much! There is much to discover, playing with paint!

The Joy of Self-Expression

Welcome to my video library of Abstract Expressionist how-to videos for beginners and non-artists. I’ve used color, texture, movement and more to work through some tough diagnoses and losses, as well as a way to find and express joy. Painting in the abstract allowed me to express those things that I had no words for. I discovered that the color and movement of brush on paper or canvas helped to soothe and distract but also to find meaning and understand my own thoughts and feelings. My hope is to create these videos to assist you in finding the same joy, healing and expression at an affordable price. Rather than put a cost on each video, I’d like to keep this accessible to those who can’t afford to take a painting class right now by offering a pay-what-you-are-able payment, with a minimum of $1. If you are able to give more, great! It will help me to create even more of these videos.

I am a fiscal year 2021 recipient of a Creative Support to Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund. With their help, I am able to create these videos and offer them at whatever you are able to give.

If you would like to be notified by email when new videos & my art blog have been posted, sign up in the box below.

If you’d like to support my work as an art patron, please donate below. Whatever you are able to give is much appreciated! It will keep me in the paint and allow me to keep producing these videos.

I am an Abstract Expressionist acrylic painter. Abstract Expressionism is aimed at subjective emotional expression with a particular emphasis on the creative spontaneous act of painting. I love interpreting music with paint, specifically choral and orchestral music, but I am open to whatever moves me to see color, movement and texture. Beyond Color: Using Paint to Heal, Create & Grow is a painting tutorial series in abstract expressionism aimed specifically at beginners and non-artists who need a creative outlet to give themselves a lift, a way to express whatever they are feeling with color. Beyond Color: Art Blog posts are my brief reflections on the 12 x 12" painting created in each demo, which will also be for sale. To see my latest work, check out my Gallery page. Thanks for visiting Beyond Color!
